Bullet point weirdness when there's a citation

My bullet points in https://github.com/jhudsl/ITCR_Documentation_and_Usability_Leanpub were not all rendering and now I've realized its only the ones with citations that don't render.

It looks fine in Rmarkdown/bookdown but not in Leanpub.

Somewhere an extra space gets added in the render:

This is not as pressing since we don't generally use the leanpub to bookdown conversion but instead use iframes.
