Priority for sitemap

As per the previous issues, I have found it's not possible to add priority. Can some one guide me, if I want to fork and add that feature, how should I proceed.

If I am not wrong I have to use the front matter from here and add the priority -

{% for page in pages %}

I would like to bring this issue back again. I would be open to implementing it
