No sass source map

I'm on Jekyll 4.1.1 and I can't seem to be able to enable sass source map outside the _site directory. In _site/assets/css a source map file is correctly generated. However, in the root of the project served on 127.0.0.1:4000/assets/css no source map is generated. As I'm not debugging in the _site directory, that source map si not helping.
Any thoughts?
