Effect of Rain on sensor

Ad-Hoc testing of mine suggests that rainy/wet conditions in the detection area reduce the ability of the device to detect movement.
By rain I mean UK typical, not tropical downpours.
I am not completely sure of this as it is difficult to maintain stable test conditions.
Does anyone else have any experience of this?
