Clarification of license conditions

Hi,

thanks for the great-looking templates.
The attached MIT license says

"The above copyright notice and this permission notice shall be included in all
copies or substantial portions of the Software."

Would that mean that the copyright also has to be included in the final generated PDF?

Hi, thank you for asking.

I think MIT is designed in a way that when you build something with this code, then it is not really a copy and not a portion of this code.

This is why MIT is so popular for templates, libraries and frameworks - it covers the code itself but your are free to use it (compile it) for any purposes.

Note: This is not legal advice so do not imply this to other projects.

Summary

  • copy, fork, publish modifications = copyright and permission notice
  • compile your cv = no notice required (but if you add a little, optional, reference or I am more than grateful for that)
  • build a nice cv for others with these templates and get big cash = still no notice required

I hope it answers your question.
