How to update / flash

Prepare:

  1. Download and extract latest stable BIOS zip file (see above)
  2. Move BIOS files onto a freshly formatted USB drive

Reset BIOS:

  1. Boot into BIOS (repeatedly press Delete key during boot sequence)
  2. Remember any custom BIOS settings and fan control configurations (see above)
  3. Navigate to "Settings" → "Save & Exit"
  4. Use "Restore Defaults" (and confirm)
  5. Use "Save change and Reboot" (and confirm)

Update (flash) BIOS:

  1. Boot into BIOS (repeatedly press Delete key during boot sequence)
  2. Enter "M-Flash" mode (and confirm)
  3. Select BIOS file from the USB drive (and confirm)
  4. Wait until update is complete - don't touch anything!

Initial Check:

  1. Let the system boot into Windows
  2. Check if everything works normally (e.g. look at performance tab in task manager)

Re-apply custom BIOS settings:

  1. Boot into BIOS (repeatedly press Delete / Entf key during boot sequence)
  2. Re-apply any custom BIOS setting and fan control configurations (see above)

Full Check:

  1. Let the system boot into Windows
  2. Check if everything works normally (e.g. look at performance tab in task manager)
  3. Run benchmarks, execute stress tests and test games as needed

Prevent automatic / unintended wake-ups

For every device:

  1. Open "Properties" (via double click)
  2. Navigate to "Power Management" tab (if available)
  3. Uncheck "Allow this device to wake up computer" (if available / allowed)
  4. Confirm with "Ok"

In addition, for both "Intel Ethernet Controller" and "Intel Wi-Fi" devices:

  1. Open "Properties" (via double click)
  2. Navigate to "Advanced" tab
  3. Select every property starting with "Wake on [...]" and change each value to "Disabled"
  4. Confirm with "Ok"

Ensure Optimal Internet Speed

For the "Intel Ethernet Controller" device:

  1. Open "Properties" (via double click)
  2. Navigate to "Advanced" tab
  3. Select the "Energy Efficient Ethernet" property and change its value to "Off"
  4. Select the "Speed & Duplex" property and change its value to "1.0 Gbps Full Duplex" (first entry, may need to scroll up)

How to clear / reset shader cache

Temporarily disable shader cache:

  1. In the NVIDIA App, navigate to "Graphics" → "Global Settings" and set "Shader Cache Size" to Disabled
  2. Restart PC

Delete shader caches:

  1. Run the Windows "Disk Cleanup" as Administrator, check at least "DirectX Shader Cache" (consider "Temporary Files" as well) and confirm with "Ok"
  2. Cleanup NVIDIA shader caches in %AppData%\NVIDIA, %LocalAppData%\NVIDIA and %LocalAppData%\D3DSCache
  3. Cleanup any game-specific shader caches (e.g. for Helldivers 2 in %AppData%\Arrowhead\Helldivers2\shader_cache)
  4. Restart PC

Re-enable shader cache:

  1. In the NVIDIA App, navigate to "Graphics" → "Global Settings" and set "Shader Cache Size" back to 100 GB
  2. Restart PC

How to clean-install drivers

Prepare:

  1. Download NVIDIA GeForce Game Ready Driver (offline installation files) (Website)
  2. Download Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) (Website)
  3. In the Windows Settings, navigate to "Accounts" → "Sign-in options" and turn off "For improved security, only allow Windows Hello sign-in for Microsoft accounts on this device (Recommended)"
  4. Logout, then log back in via password (not PIN!)
  5. Temporarily disconnect the PC from the Internet during all remaining instructions (e.g. by unplugging Ethernet cable)

Uninstall current drivers:

  1. In the Windows start menu, navigate to "Power" and click "Restart" while holding the Shift key
  2. Navigate to "Troubleshoot" → "Advanced options" → "Startup Settings" and click "Restart"
  3. Press 4 to boot info offline Safe Mode
  4. Login via password (not PIN!)
  5. Run Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) as Administrator
  6. Choose correct GPU instance and brand at the top right
  7. Click "Clean and Restart"

Install new drivers:

  1. Let the PC boot normally
  2. Login via password (not PIN!)
