Trying to port classic theme to Jekyll

I am currently trying to port the beloved Classic theme to Jekyll, and failing miserably. There are too many layers and conditions in the includes, I lost track where I was every other minute. Additionally, I don't know ruby, which makes it impossible trying to fix the errors until Jekyll successfully builds in the theme directory.

@imathis Do you have the original front end markup of the theme (or a version that originally ran on Jekyll) still lying around by any chance? I would appreciate it very much if you could share that with me.
