Support for XDG Specs while Creating and Reading Config File

As per my understanding, currently it looks for .config/xarchiver/ in the user's home directory. Would it be possible to store it under $XDG_CONFIG_HOME/xarchiver and fall back to ~/.config/xarchiver in case $XDG_CONFIG_HOME is unset or null?
