Some of the tone mark combinations in Chinese pinyin appear in a fallback font:
That would be the third tone (except maybe ě?) and all of the ü’s.
I’ve checked in Writer for iPad and Mac, and it’s happening when selecting either Mono, Duo or Quattro.
This will be fixed in the next version.
