Safari: show google search in address bar does not work

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. uncheck this option
2. restart safari
3. see that the google search item is still in the address bar
What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
the search item in the address bar should not be there
What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
1.06 on 10.5.8 with safari 4.0.5
