Thoughts on failing back to an external API?

What are your thoughts on falling back to an external API like Calendarific.com when the country is not available in the list?
Sorry but I don't think that this would be a good fit. I think that a service-specific client would make a lot more sense. I see that a ruby client does not exist yet so that would probably be a better place to spend your effort.
