Nothing put in repository

Windows 11, Visual Studio 2019, Git is recent to a couple of months, but don’t see a version number
It looks like nothing is going in the repository.
Git is installed to the point that it is an item in the Visual Studio tool bar. I think have created a repository on the local drive: Z_GIT The full path appears to be:
Z_GIT.vs\Z_GIT/v16
And nothing below the v16 directory.
I have tried several times and suspect there are a few invalid repositories.
I think I messed up somewhere to get that duplicate looking path. Still the directory v16 has a date that is a short while ago when I tried a commit.
From the tool bar select: Git -> Local Repositories -> ws_numbers_01 (E:\WX\wx_numbers_01)
That is the path to the working directory
The result is, …, nothing. The dialog is closed and nothing is displayed.
What are the steps to see what is in the repository?
