Hi Greg,

Is there any chance you can have a portable or a local user install version?
I attempted an install for 'you only' vs all users, and redirected the file path to a user dir, but I was still prompted with an admin login.

Cheers

Well, to complete the install regardless of where you place the executable, the .pbitool.json file still needs to end up in Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Power BI Desktop\External Tools which is going to want elevated permissions. I will take a look to see what I can do about it.

One option, I could republish the .zip file of the compiled program and republish the old installation instructions where you have to install the program manually without the installer and then hand edit the .pbitool.json file and place it in the correct directory. What do you think about that?

Thanks Greg, that's a bummer since that sits within program files. Is there a way to have 'external tools' associated with a local user folder within C:\Users<username>\AppData ?
If not, then, no need to republish it yet. I'll have to look further on the internet and see what I can find.

It's a bit annoying, in this case, as I installed Power BI via the MS Store which didn't go via UAC. p.s. Feel free to help me out with my pesky dax limited lookback issue - yeders ;)
