[Bug] Continuous Playback Sorting Issues

gdavis opened this issue · comments

Continuous Playback doesn't always respect the podcast's original sort order when creating the playlist.

Need to confirm that episodes from each podcast retain their sort before being added to the playlist.

I've seen some weird behaviour a few times, and I finally managed to catch an example of it it in a screen recording today.

Pay attention to the "Help I sexted my boss" podcast. At the start of the video it's showing an episode from 1 year ago - "Weekend release: Melon plucker update".

I wasn't sure exactly what I'd done to trigger the behaviour last time, so I was trying out a few things. I thought that changing the number of total episodes was what had triggered it, but I couldn't trigger it that way this time.

Around 01:50 I jump into the podcast and you can see that the episode I expect to be showing is from 4 years ago - "Help I'm marrying an American"

The real fun happens at about 02:20 where I archive an episode of ABC News Daily - "It's time to stop counting COVID shots". When that gets removed from the Continuous Playback queue, the Melon Plucker episode disappears too. I then scroll down and you can see that it's pulled in a completely different episode from 22 days ago - "Help the gay ghost is back"

I didn't notice this at the time - but at 02:18, the second-last episode on the screen is an episode of "The Constant" - also from 1 year ago, same as the Melon Plucker episode. It's called "Walking on sunshine", and it's right underneath an episode of "Betwixt the Sheets" called "The Blues". By 02:22 that episode of The Constant has also disappeared. At 02:28 you can see that it's been replaced by an episode from 5 weeks ago - "Are whales fish?"

This video was taken on build 121

I've also got a series of screenshots I took a few days ago - Feb 7, 2am my time. I'm not entirely sure if these pics were taken on build 120 or 121 - it was the middle of the night and I can't remember if the upgrade notification was before or after these pics were taken. I think I was notified that the new build was available before these pics, but the new version wasn't downloaded until after them.

I've attached all the files for completeness. I was trying to show what was in the queue in the first 3 pics.  Of note: the Melon Plucker and Walking on Sunshine episodes were both in the queue at this point.

In the 4th pic, I was showing the settings for the queue.

After the 4th pic, something happened - I think I adjusted the number of episodes, but it might have just been leaving the settings page? The queue rejigged itself.. and this time, the Melon Plucker and Walking on Sunshine episodes were replaced with much more recent episodes of both podcasts.

At some point between then and this morning, I'd made some changes to the priorities of podcasts (so the ordering in the video is different, and that's expected). But along the way, the app had gone back to the same episodes of both of those podcasts, from 1 year ago in both cases.

Still happening. I've worked around it by only using Mimir for podcasts where "oldest first" is what I want. The podcasts that are high priority I listen to in another app, then I flip back to Mimir for the things that are lower priority.
