How to set custom component data or the returning value into global data object

I have made a custom component of captcha . The component is returning a value which is in alphanumeric string which is the captcha to verify by typing . Now after that i want to set the returning value of the captcha component to global submission object which is "data". I am not able to find anything related to it in any of your documentation , so can u please tell me how to do so written above .
