Feature request: generate data to a configuarable variable like _data/navigation.yml

I want to use theme like minimal-mistakes or jekyll-TeXt-theme. They both support customized sidebar navigation but require editing _data/navigation.yml file manually. (see here and here)
I just wondering if this plugin can help to generate the navigation data on the fly.
