Scaling issues on Win11 @ 300% (4k)

stoooops opened this issue · comments

The Windows version opens at half my screen size, overlays the ability to close it, and the modals extend well off the side of my screen.

The application needs to properly account for screen scaling or it is bricked.

this is my first time trying Frame wallet since I wrote this minor security patch last year

Last time I tried it on Ubuntu, and it does not properly handled vertical toolbars.

I would love to use your wallet but it's been broken on my setup for over a year now across multiple OS.

I am using default settings on Windows for my screen

@stoooops We are aware of an issue with the Windows 11 system tray, I believe a Windows update broke this, although admittedly Frame would not have an issue here if it was using a free floating window as other Electron apps like Discord, VS Code, etc are unaffected.

We have windowing improvements coming up where we plan to have a free float mode for Frame. I will take a look at the scaling and see if there is anything we can do here (and for the systray issue) as a patch release.

In the meantime you can quit from the settings menu.

@stoooops What size screen do you have? Windows 11 recommends 150% scaling for my 27" 4k screen.

I'm actually using a 65" 4k TV with Windows 11. So that's why it defaults to 300%.

Ok, I have no way of testing this but I'll see what I can do. When you say "opens at half my screen size" do you mean vertically or horizontally, or both?

You can see from the picture I attached how it is opening. The horizontal seems off especially.

But it was the vertical size overlapping the taskbar which prevented closing it I think. Which I would consider the more severe issue if we split hairs a bit.

You should be able to mimic this by using display scaling 300% on a 4k monitor. It will just be very zoomed in kind of like 1080p.

The actual real world inches is a red herring here. It's just informing the selected value for display scaling in windows I believe which will operate the same independent of physical display size.

(The reason for this setup is I sit across the room about 8 ft away from this "monitor")

But hopefully the exaggerated display scaling can help you track down the arithmetic (I presume).

Ok, will check this, thanks for the detail. The systray issue is tracked in #1528 so I've made this one just about the scaling. As I said above you can quit using the main menu, another workaround to access the systray icon is to pin it to the taskbar. Obviously neither of these are good solutions so we will be looking to fix the systray issue shortly with a patch release.

@stoooops I updated #1528, the systray issue is now fixed on my system after installing a Windows cumulative update package. You might want to check that all available windows updates are installed.
