HostBot: your Wikipedia robot friend

HostBot is a set of Python scripts that performs repetitive tasks on and for the Wikipedia Teahouse. HostBot is run by Jonathan Morgan, and is hosted on ]https://wikitech.wikimedia.org/wiki/Main_Page Wikimedia Labs]. Hostbot makes use of the MediaWiki API, the https://github.com/alexz-enwp/wikitools Python framework.

Information about what the Teahouse is, and how it came to be can be found here. If you're interested in creating a Teahouse on your home wiki, please email Jonathan or post to his talk page on Wikipedia.

Functions

Talk page invitations

Posts templated invitations to the talk pages of new Wikipedia editors. Currently it posts invitations to visit the Teahous and to play The Wikipedia Adventure game.

Archiving

Archives Teahouse guest profiles.

Activity logging

Logs activity on the Teahouse: questions asked and answered, profiles created, unique visitors.

Reporting

Publishes database reports to wiki pages: Teahouse invitees and monthly Teahouse activity metrics.

Featuring

Features recent content in galleries on the Teahouse front pages: recently asked questions, recently created guest profiles, and recently active hosts.
