Publish website from new `release` branch

Now that we’re making some changes to the interactive examples it’s easy to inadvertently break the website. Switch to publishing the website from a new release branch and maybe have a separate online URL for develop (or just run locally).

• create release
• publish from release rather than develop
• protect release branch (and other “permanent” branches)
