Values, Superpowers, and Career Choices
What do you deeply care about? What do you excel at? Build a career out of that.
Thank you for sharing your journey and advice! I have enjoyed reading a lot of your articles and newsletter. There are some values that I was able to isolate, but I'm also still struggling a lot with finding and leveraging my superpowers. I'm confronted more easily with my shortcomings, even though perhaps these can be translated to strengths as well. I will recap the questions in the article from time to time and also use these questions during evaluations with my supervisor to be able to become better at identifying these superpowers, since this is beneficial for me but the company as well.
Hey Sarah! Thanks for your kind words. Indeed, it can be hard to really understand our superpowers. I needed a couple years of work experience and lots of peer/manager feedback before finally understand what I contributed uniquely.
Something you can try is to have an anonymous survey with questions such as:
- What does Sarah do better than 95% of people you know?
- How does Sarah contribute uniquely?
- What should Sarah double down on? (Or what should Sarah stop doing? If you want to learn about weaknesses)
