Labeld links do not work in footnotes

Here is a minimal example:
observe: this [link][md] works [^1]
observe: this [other link][getip] works, too[^2]
[getip]: http://www.getip.com
[md]: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Markdown
[^1]: this [non-labled footnote link](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Markdown) worsk
[^2]: but this [labeld footnote link][getip] does not!
