All my mp3's have the genre set. I've check these three samples and all three have their genre set. But it doesn't show up in playerctl metadata output. Really need this to use with rescrobbler's filter function. Should mention I installed from release 0.9.1

Use a Git build; support for genre and album artist fields was added a few months ago.
