Locking the phone locks the app despite the locking timer not being reached

Steps to reproduce
- Enable app locking after a time frame
Settings>Security & Privacy>Protect Access> enable "Require Pin after 2 minutes" - Without closing the app, lock the device
- immediately unlock the device
- observe that the app is locked despite the 2 minutes not being up.
Outcome
What did you expect?
I expect that the timer would be followed despite the phone being locked
What happened instead?
The app gets locked immediately when the phone is locked
