function "coordinates" does not work

the example of the Help of the function "coordinates" does not work. But it worked few months ago.
the example :
data(meuse.grid)
coordinates(meuse.grid) <- ~x+y
gridded(meuse.grid) <- TRUE
class(meuse.grid)
bbox(meuse.grid)
It works for me. Could you please give the output of your sessionInfo()?

Try updating your sp package, yours is 1.5 years old, whereas your R version is current; sp may have accomodated to changes in R.
