Joystick issue with C64 games (up/down only, no left/right movement)

What happened?
Fantastic in every way. This is working well for every platform, but I'm a big into C64. I have one issue with C64 emulation and joystick controls when using VICE. Swapping joy ports, whether I'm using port 1 or 2, I still have the same issue where I cannot move left or right. Only up/down. This is usually something I can solve by checking the Vice config but I'm not sure if this is originating from VICE, OpenDingux, or RetroArch in this case. Any help would be appreciated.
