Search value shared between views

When you enter a value in the search box on any page then click through to a different list (say from System Users to Applications), the search term is carried over when it should be completely independent of the views it's used in.
What's more, on the Sites page while results are updated to reflect the search term leaked from the other page, the actual search box still shows the original value.
