Question about compatibility

Hi,
I'm currently using Django 1.10 on my computer and the server that I plan to use can be configure with 1.8.
These versions are them incompatible ?
I tried to find this in the official doc but nothing.

The djangopeople site uses the Django version listed in https://github.com/django/djangopeople/blob/master/requirements.txt.
