BASS_ERROR

I get the following error when I try to start Pandorian:

Couldn't open stream: BASS_ERROR_TIMEOUT
Try restarting the app...

When I click OK, the error window closes and the normal cover art of song appears with the song's progress bar showing the song completed.

Clicking the skip song button brings up the warning about a 42 sec blank audio track because Pandora is punishing me for excessive skipping. Yet this is the first load for the new day.

Exiting and starting results in the same error.

Uninstalling Pandorian and reinstalling Pandorian does not fix problem.

Pandora works fine in IE.

Not sure it means anything, but Pale Moon is my default browser. Pandora does not play in Pale Moon because Pale Moon does not support flash.

sounds like a network issue. something is preventing pandorian from downloading the actual songs from pandora servers.

i can assure you that pandorian latest version is working absolutely fine for everyone else including me at both home and work.

it's definitely something in your environment. maybe a firewall?

Well, of course, it works perfectly this morning, after I got your reply.

I have been using this latest (64-bit) version of Pandorian for months now with no problems. And the only changes to my computer is just what came via Windows Update (64-bit W10 Pro).

What confused me was the 42 second pause messages tied to the BASS_ERROR - which seemed to point to Pandorian too.

I was not having any problems using same computer (and same firewall as Pandorian) and going through the website with IE. And Pandora was streaming fine via my phone and my Roku streamer via the same network. So from here (and I'm a hardware tech, not a programmer) it looked like Pandorian.

Anyway, it is working now so I am good to go. Thanks for your quick response.

Sadly, this is not resolved. I have been having these BASS_ERROR_TIMEOUT errors consistently now, to the point where Pandorian is unusable. Which is sad because I have been using it daily for at least a year on this system with no problems. I made sure it was not my firewall (Windows Firewall) by creating a rule to let Pandorian have full access. Made no difference. And since it retrieves the album art and lists my "Stations" it clearly is connecting.

I don't see it being my ISP because I have no problems at all connecting to Pandora and streaming via my browser (as I am doing now) - even when the BASS_ERROR_TIMEOUT and 42 second pause message is being displayed by Pandorian.

I have uninstalled and re-installed Pandorian several times. System File Checker (sfc /scannow) found no problems. I even installed the Windows 10 Creator's Update hoping it might overwrite some corrupt Windows file, but that did not help. Note I am not having any other problems with my computer or any other program.

Any help/suggestions would be appreciated.

are you using a free pandora account now by any chance?

or if you are using a paid a/c can you pls double check whether you've enabled (checked) the "Use Pandora Plus" option in the settings screen?

also which streaming quality are you using? can you try switching to "Medium - 64k AAC" stream and see if that makes any difference?

let me know...

cheers!

Thanks for your quick reply.

Free version. And yes, I was using Medium, but again, I have for over a year with no problems. Just switched to 32, but it made no difference. :(

I can even switch Stations with no problems so I'm definitely getting through to Pandora.

ah that makes sense then. there have been periods in pandora history where free users were de-prioritized. i.e. free users (specially people who are using unofficial clients/players) are served from their overcrowded servers and during busy times, people experience streaming errors. that is probably why pandorian is giving BASS and blank track errors. when demand goes down on those servers, things return to normal.

i myself am using a plus/paid a/c with pandorian without any issues whatsoever.

to test whether your account has been temporarily sandboxed, you could try signing up for a new free account and use that with pandorian. if that seems to solve the issue, use that new a/c for a few days and let your regular account cool down for a few days.

I never considered trying a new account. That sounds like a good idea. I can't get to that until tomorrow, but will give it a try and let you know. Thanks.

No luck. I uninstalled Pandorian then purged the Registry of all Pandorian entries and rebooted. Then I created a totally new Pandora account, reinstalled Pandorian using the new account information and got the same BASS_ERROR_TIMEOUT error.

So I don't know what is going on. I cannot find anything wrong otherwise with my system. Pandora works great via my browser and I can stream YouTube music and videos, and Netflix with no problems. No malware.

So I don't know what to say at this point. Thanks for your suggestions.

interesting indeed...

i just logged in with a free account i had laying around it works without any issues. at this point, i'm out of recommendations for you. sorry! give pandorian a try again in about a week. i will keep using my free account and try to figure out what the heck is going on in the meantime.

will let you know if i find a cause behind this...

thanks!

Well, I don't think it is a problem with my computer or my router, but I am not ruling out my ISP (Cox). Of course, with it only being me reporting it at this time, it would suggest something unique on this end is doing it.

I also tried the Pandora app from the Microsoft Store and it works fine too - except for the constant commercial breaks every few songs. So I am just using IE for now.

Will check again in a week or so as suggested.

Thanks.

Final (I hope!) followup.

This last Monday, I downloaded and installed the 64-bit version of Pandorian once again. I started it up and it worked. I listened to my station for almost 6 hours straight with no problems. Same yesterday and again today. :)

Since my last post, I have made no changes to my computer other than the 4/21/17 Adobe Flash Windows Update KB4018483 which, mysteriously, had failed on 4/12. I am using the same Pandora station and Pandorian settings I used before the problems started.

I wish I knew what the problem was so I (maybe) could ensure it does not recur. At any rate, all seems to be good now, so once again, I am a happy Pandora listener and Pandorian user!

it's highly unlikely that it was your pc/os. i'm pretty sure pandora servers were under heavy load and unofficial client users were de-prioritized and crammed into overcrowded servers which resulted in BASS (the audio engine) failing to download audio stream data. so my suggestion in case this happens again is a cool-off period. thanks!
