Message bodies do not appear when using search

When using search, if an email is selected from the results, only the header will be displayed. (Email reading without searching works fine.) I'm using it with Gmail on 10.15.4. Any ideas?

The previews appear in the message list when I search, but when I click or double-click the message to read the whole email, the full message body does not appear (see below). Does this work for you?

I noticed a similar problem when clicking on a Notification Center alert - the message window would open and the body would be blank. Also when opening a message window quickly after launching the app. In that case, the message would display properly after opening the message again after a few seconds.
What I noted in my previous comment appears to be a race condition. Waiting a few seconds for DejaLu to start and everything is as expected. Perhaps this issue is similar or related.
The issue persists no matter how long I wait (minutes or hours after having the application open). Note that my issue appears specifically related to doing searches-- message bodies appear fine in all other contexts.
