prdp-phrase

Something odd with the phrase structure rule which seems to be intended for predicative adjectives: prdp_phrase

It looks like it is used for both noun and verb phrase modification, and while it's nice to have just one rule, it seems to me that it leads to a range of problems once you start reducing overgeneration (e.g. due to agreement underspecification). Perhaps these two usages could be divorced.

I hope to be able to add examples later.

For example, where this prdp_phrase seems to be needed is this example:

But I think not this one:

But of course viejo can be predicative. Except it seems like such cases are handled without the PP phrase:

It seems to me that "predicative" maybe is a misnomer and this PP-generating phrase structure rule is intended for a subset of adjectives (like mejor, but also many others but not all) that can modify verb phrases as adverbs. Maybe it should be called something like advadj_phrase.

It also seems like there needs to be a feature which distinguishes the adjectives that can undergo this rule from the ones that cannot. (And PRD is not that feature because both viejo and mejor can be predicative, as in "Mi gata es mejor" and "Mi gata es vieja."
