personal homepages

arademaker opened this issue · comments

We have 40 personal homepages from the old MoinMoin. In the new GitHub https://github.com/delph-in/docs/wiki I am ready to remove those pages. Is it fine? @goodmami @fcbond @guyemerson @oepen @olzama @delph-in/standing-committee ?

I would be happy with that. I'm under the impression these were mainly used as redirects to homepages elsewhere. I think GitHub profile pages already fill that purpose.

Thank you, I will wait for more inputs until tomorrow. If I don't have any additional comments, I will remove these pages, as you said, I don't think their content is too relevant.

Does removing then cause existing links to point to nonexistent pages? If so, maybe we can create a mapping to known GitHub profiles and replace them?

This sounds like a good idea! I suppose this will leave out some people, but looking through the homepages, it seems that many people never set up a homepage, and many homepages are out of date.

The idea sounds good, but it will not be easy to implement. We don't have a map from wiki users to GitHub ids. I am afraid I will not have time to make this list. If someone can help with that, I can investigate how my code on top of https://pandoc.org can use this map to convert links.

We don't have a map from wiki users to GitHub ids.

This GitHub organization has 20 members, but most of the have their membership set to "Private" so I'm not sure it's appropriate to link to them without permission. But the wiki profiles were already public so perhaps I'm being too cautious. As the GitHub wiki is just a git repository, we can always run a script later to convert, e.g., ../MichaelGoodman (as things are currently linked in reST) to https://github.com/goodmami.

all personal homepages removed.

There remain some personal wikis. Maybe they didn't have the CategoryHomepage thing?

Ok I've now deleted the pages in that list. There are still some that look like they could be personal pages within a project (NoraJohan, NoraOla, NoraTobias) but all the wikis say is: You are not allowed to view this page.

I'll close this again, for now.

but all the wikis say is: You are not allowed to view this page.

Yes, this means the page was protected in MoinMoin. So the content could not be retrieved. We can remove these pages from the new wiki.

NoraJohan, NoraOla, NoraTobias

I removed all these 3 now
