Brilliant UW Coursera course has gone!

urbangemz opened this issue · comments

I was working my way through the first course which was brilliant! It was an excellent level for beginners but now the link points to a new intermediate course which is unfortunately not free.

If it was a coursera class, my colleague sent me this info:

Reminder: Coursera is deleting some 450 or so courses from the older platform on June 30th. Steps to find those classes and downloaded material here:…30th. Steps to find those classes and downloaded material here: https://www.class-central.com/report/coursera-old-platform-shutdown-download-courses/

Thank you for this very useful article 👍

@urbangemz, I have all the videos for that too & can upload them somewhere online if you want.

Which UW course are you referring to specifically ?

I guess Bill howe's course. It's a very good one.

@sandhub Maybe you can upload them on Youtube :)

I guess that would work well @Dawny33 😄 .

All videos are added to this playlist. Can someone who has permissions open a PR and add this to the Readme.md too?

Thanks for turning my attention to this, everyone - I'm saddened by the for-profit direction that these resources have gone in. Thanks to the community effort, we'll find resources that continue to be free.

Thanks for all your help guys. Yes it was Bill's course which is wonderful for beginners. Think that the course may have been in transit from old to new platform as it is back now (thank goodness!), great to have the youtube link though just in case they do decide to remove it or go down the for-profit root.

@urbangemz Sent the PR. Let's close this issue once it's merged :)

Today is last day to download Coursera classes from old platform. One of the guys i know wrote a quick python script after assessing what courses are on old platform and he was able to download. Just plug in your username and password and you’ll get a few courses related to data science, statistics, machine learning, sna, nlp, programming https://github.com/datamatt/coursera/blob/master/coursera.py. These instructions are from him.

Went to do more of the course today and the link was down.. :(

Thanks to @loudermilk I was able to find the course materials saved here, but they're missing the assignments:
https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B-cMEyYKk7NCQ1dqcWFpOTJDSDA&usp=drive_web#list

Thankfully the assignments are still on github here:

i found this link ..hope its useful for everyone

Thank you. Everyone for the sharing

Thanks to all of you for this resources

I don't want to be rude or anything, I just have an honest question. If it has been known for years that the first 2 links in this project are dead/invalid, why hasn't it been changed?

Hi everyone, I just found that U of W uploaded all materials of the course to archive.org. You can find it through this link: https://archive.org/details/academictorrents_1448261dd6932e549ba4a86b5d6750aae858d003
