VSCode commitizen plugin seems not to find commitizen configuration

The VSCode plugin for using interactive commitizen directly via VSCode command palette seem not to find the commitizen configuration. In fact it cannot be started via VSCode.
Command line seems to work.
problem was just locally appearing when the plugin Visual Studio Code Commitizen Support was not installed properly.
