Consider migration to Gitlab?

opened this issue · comments

Microsoft playing stupid games already many years. Many good software was affected and now time of github ))

GitHub users are now required to enable two-factor authentication as an additional security measure. Your activity on GitHub includes you in this requirement. You will need to enable two-factor authentication on your account before September 28, 2023, or be restricted from account actions.

Can you consider migration to gitlab.com?

P.S. I used gitlab on-premise many years and it works really not bad, not worse than github even in community edition.

P.P.S. I think I will have to stop using github account. MS will not allow to login me without 2FA. So I will not be able to make any contribution, even comment issues )))

What's the issue with 2fFA? I've the app 2FA for as far as I remember and never had any issues... Are you being forced to use a mobile number?

We want you to have the most seamless experience with 2FA possible, so you can choose one or more of the following options:

Security key
GitHub Mobile
Authenticator application (TOTP)
Text messages (SMS)

You should set up at least two of these options, to ensure you always have access to your account. Head to https://github.com/settings/security to enroll more 2FA methods.

They want to enroll 2 methods, but all that does not make big sense. I do not need 2FA, I have enough secure my local environment and invested in that a lot including FDE everywhere, random passwords with high entropy and so on.
But in general I do not like any pressure, 2FA should be optional, I think they cannot decide instead of me, so my way and github way now are different ways I guess. I did not plan all in details yet, but last time when they started made shit I fully switched to Linux, and I am writing this comment from nix machine ))) And changed VS to Rider.

It was extremely easy and fast!

We've too many repositories in GitHub to consider migration for migration's sake.
