The problem of Seoul's elderly population

rossgeesman opened this issue · comments

Korea has experienced unprecedented economic growth over the past 50 years. Unfortunatley much of Korea's older generation has not benefited from the improvements, and this has left many of them very vulnerable. Elderly suicide rates are extremely high, loneliness and isolation is common, and many lack funds to purchase food and medical supplies and are forced to work well past retirement to afford their expenses.
Is there some way we can provide a solution to some of the many problems experienced by Korea's elderly population? Is there a government or civic organization we could partner with to get a better understanding of the problems?

that's one of important issues in Korea. Especialyl, they cannot benefit from high technology we are using.

I think this problem could benefit from a 공유경제-type approach. I particularly like this idea from the UK. https://www.casseroleclub.com/

보건복지부의 푸드뱅크를 참고하세요.
Check the Food Bank from Ministry of Health and Wellfare.

well... japan has the same problem. part of it i think is a lot of them are getting lonely and bored. so someone of them help take care of children or help foreigners learn japanese for a low price. maybe we could do something like that?

We came up with #9 during our 23th Hack Night brainstorm session :)

There is definitely a lot of complaints by female workers that the cost of childcare in Korea is more expensive than the monthly salary and it is a big reason why there are many households with only one provider. Perhaps this elderly population problem and childcare problem can be mutually explored
