Sans font not appropriate

charlesweir opened this issue · comments

From email discussions with the Lancaster author of the accessibility guidelines, it appears that using a sans-serif font is a suggestion, not a requirement.

In fact, the recommendation for sans-serif fonts can be traced to the needs of web pages on low-resolution monitors, and several sources point out that this is no longer relevant given screen improvements.

The requirement instead is for a clear, easily readable font. Serif fonts widely accepted as better for book and large documents designed for end-to-end reading. Several serif fonts answer the need: https://accessibility.psu.edu/legibility/fontface/

Actions: Change main font to a popular Microsoft serif one.
Provide instructions for the user to change the font if desired.

Now using Cambria as base font.
