Country names with dashes name things incorrectly

Gemma had an issue with the 'unzip geofabrik' code that Tom and @cateseale worked on for the project last year. She was trying to process that lao data but the zip file naming didn't fit with the dictionary in the code. The code was looking for the first clause (separated by -). Looking at the dictionary there are entries such as 'central-african-republic) which with the code would provide 'central' which would be of little use trying to match with the 3 digit iso code in the dictionary.
All the above is just a simple (or complicated) explanation of the issue
What I am asking is there a way of finding out the name that 'geofabrik' names the zip file when a set of country data is downloaded? If we can get this manually or automatically (my preference) we can amend the dictionary so the next time we do a data scramble, we are not scrambling around to fix the code (if a country name has more than two clauses.
