Bug: netflix safari playback is choppy after latest update

LLuna-a opened this issue · comments

Describe the bug
playing back Netflix on Safari with eqmac on makes the sound choppy it cuts off every 100 ms or something

Steps to Reproduce
Steps to reproduce the behavior

  1. Go to safari with the latest eqmac update and macos update
  2. Open Netflix with eqmac driver/sound processing enabled
  3. The sound is choppy
  4. See error

Expected behavior
it shouldn't get chopped off every second

Setup information:

  • Audio device used for playback: [14-inch MacBook pro built-in speakers]
  • Audio transmission interface: [built in]
  • macOS Version: [e.g. 14.1]
  • eqMac Version [app v1.8.0 driver v2.5.0]
  • eqMac UI Version [5.0.2]

EDIT: After reading the post below about it not being system wide, I concur. I usually use YouTube Music, and the clipping/chopping occurs there, however with Apple Music the clipping/chopping does not occur.

This is occurring for me - with any source. Sound is clipped every 100ms or so.

MacBook Pro 2019 - Sonoma 14.1
Audio Device: MacBook Pro built in speakers, and USB connected Lancyia MK-70
eqMac - 1.8.0, driver 2.5.0 ui 5.0.2 (local)

Upgrade because there was no UI at all after upgrading to Sonoma

EDIT: After more testing, It is not happening system-wide for me. I had originally thought it was system-wide because where the problem was originating. It is not. It consistently happens while streaming video in sites like Netflix, Hulu, YouTube in Safari. Choppy/clippy sound.

Works great in Apple Music which is why I purchased it to begin with.

app = eqMac

Happens either immediately when I start up the app or if it does not happen on start-up, it will happen a few minutes in.

Tried restarting app - still occurs.

Tried restarting Safari and then restarting app.

Tried restarting Mac - still occurs

Tried resetting core audio through the terminal which fixes the issue for about a minute or two but the issue just recurs after that.

Audio output to a Schiit Bifrost DAC via USB (but will also occur if using the internal iMac speakers).

I had the same issue, went back to v 1.7.10...

Same issue as everyone else and going back to 1.7.10 solved it for me.

The same problem with Safari Versión 17.2.1 (19617.1.17.11.12) running in macOS Sonoma 14.2.1. Clean install and the same issue. Coreaudio in Mac mini M2 and Mac Studio Pro M2 Max. Firefox working fantastic when audio playback like YouTube or Beatport, Soundcloud, etc. via eqMac v1.8.0

iMac Late 2012
Sonoma 14.2.1
eqMac v1.8.2
Sound is chopped in Safari 17.2.1
Sound is not chopped in Opera One 105.0.4970.21

Just ran into this after the last update. YouTube playback in Brave is choppy as described by the other comments above, YouTube playback in chrome has a delay, maybe <100ms.

Macbook Pro 16' 2020 (ARM64/M1)
Sonoma 14.0
Brave Browser 120.0.6099.217 arm64
eqMac UI v5.0.3
eqMac app v1.8.2
eqMac driver v2.5.0

Problem still there with v1.8.3...

Problem still there w/ v1.8.3 Safari Youtube videos o Vevo.

Same issue for me on 1.8.4. Sound is choppy coming out of youtube

Also choppy on 1.8.5 (on safari w/youtube)

On v1.8.5 (Driver v2.5.2), also experiencing the same issue. Audio is choppy, sounds like a helicopter is right next to me while listening to audio from Safari. requires 1-4 restarts of eqMac to stop the issue, but it comes back minutes later or when switching tab groups. No issues anywhere else, only on Safari. Running Safari v17.3.

1.8.7 seems to fix the issue, thank you!

Same for me - 1.8.7 seems to solve it and also the recurring need for driver restart at wake-up
