patch sequence out of order on new boards

Okay, I've got a bit of intel on this bug -- it's happening when the authors widget adds the current user to a board. I think there's something wrong internally with how hypermerge is tracking the handles for frontends. Need to look into it more but I think this is close.
(Note that I can confirm commenting out the "add self to authors" code eliminates the bug.
