Distinace between fingers

Can we get some type of control over the distance between fingers needed for a click to work? I have 3 finger tap on so that I can easily click and open links in a new background browser tab. The issue is, my trackpad on the m1 max 16" macbook is so large and theres often a very slight bit of palm or finger resting on it, so it registers as a click a LOT, which causes the scroll thing to come up and just scrolls through a page im reading. this happens extremely often.
I just found the instructions to make it 4 finger tap instead of 3 finger tap, but i like it best at 3 fingers. but having two fingers on the trackpad (to scroll) and accidently touching the pad on the other side with my palm or something causes it to scroll fast and loose my place on the page quite often. Looking for a better solution.
It also happened to me multiple times while playing Minecraft that I accidentally switched slots because of the exact same issue the OP mentioned. If you right click on the native Mac trackpad there is also a maximum distance between the fingers so that I don't accidentally right click when I don't want to. I just tested it and it seems like the distance is somewhere around 4-5cm.
