Hi....this is working great for me out of the gate...but I hope to do closer range detection. I get 100% confidence 30 feet from my Pi. I'm hoping to get a lower confidence when outside of a 10x12 room.
Any thoughts?

Not really reliably possible. RSSI is a bad proxy for distance, and that's about all we get to leverage as a proxy for distance. This is meant to be a binary present/absent signal within bluetooth signal range.
