Timeline event connections (edges)

Seems that between Network and Timeline, there should be a way to connect nodes on a Timeline — but as far as I can tell from the documentation, there is not. (i.e. No change to the current layout structure beyond adding the ability to add "edges" like they are added in Network)
The main use case I see here is for building Gantt-style charts; does this seem like a simple/straightforward/welcome addition?
