Proposal for distribution of Statics TTF font files in Source Han Serif

KoyohETIcho opened this issue · comments

I would like to thank you for providing with this wonderful font, Sorce Han Serif.

I am writing here to propose that you distribute Source Han Serif as a Statics TTF file.

The reason for this is that when I use Word, which is a software made by Mirosoft, the weight I set is not reflected when I output to PDF after embedding Source Serif JP VF.

Microsoft also acknowledges that embedding OTF fonts does not work when they are embedded. The workaround in the official documentation states "use only fonts that have the ".ttf" extension in documents in which you intend to embed the fonts.

For this reason, I would appreciate it if you would consider distributing the font files in the official Statics TTF, so that Statics OTF font files are distributed in each language.

Thank you very much for your reply, Explorer09.

I have read issue #82 and some of the related issues.

I am a newbie, but I am posting here for two reasons: use in different environments, and licensing issues.

Furthermore, I can imagine that when a file is shared with someone else, the above OTF cannot be embedded and the layout may be corrupted in situations where it is necessary to coordinate font names and environments with other people. For this reason, we thought it would be useful to distribute the TTF files officially by Adobe.

In addition, since the name "Source" is reserved by Adobe in the license, it cannot be used for other fonts that have been modified. This means that even individual fonts with the same matrix as Souce Han Serif have to be given different names. For this reason, I thought it would be beneficial for Adobe to officially distribute the font, so I am posting it here.

For these two reasons, I think it would be desirable for Statics TTF to be distributed by Adobe.

Thank you very much for taking the time to read this long article.
