Colima logo can be confused as Lima logo

@abiosoft WDYT?
I think you're right.

Unfortunately I'm not good at graphic designing.
What about just retracting the logo for now, and seek for a contributor?

I can retract it. I mainly created this when applying to macStadium for a (free) open source machine.
I tried this on ideogram.ai - https://ideogram.ai/g/LVRNaPRaTeaLqTY8vZIsZQ/0
A little more work and maybe it would be meaningful.
Here's the one I came up with

Here's one based on @shaal above, https://ideogram.ai/g/Smu7wwsGSYuKSBXUuJFNzw/2
I think incorporating the Docker or Kubernetes icons in the logo is not allowed by Docker Inc and the Linux Foundation respectively because they are protected trademarks.
I'm pretty sure these latest two are distinct enough to survive any challenge, but please propose ideas that don't contain those.

You can try, but I suspect Docker Inc will fight against any image of a stylized whale in combination with container technology. This is not about copyright, but about trademark law.
Anyways, you can always try, and be prepared to drop the logo again as soon as you get a lawyer letter. Personally I would try to proactively avoid any conflict, especially for an independent project.
I would recommend looking at the CNCF Landscape chart to see what kind of logos other projects have chosen. I didn't spot any whales in there, and any references to the Kubernetes wheel are very different from the k8s logo.
Just make some text suggestions! Nobody needs lawyer work :) @shaal and I will try to pursue them.
031902, 031924, 260117 - Whales. Stylized fish, whales, seals and sea lions. Two concentric circles.
And final note from me: as you can probably see from the CNCF chart, it is a requirement of the foundation that the logo includes the project name. May be a good idea to follow, so you don't have to change the logo again if you ever decide to apply as a CNCF sandbox project.
When we are ready to finalize the logo, we can use a service like https://vectorizer.ai, to converts an image to a vector SVG
I probably like this one a bit better, from https://ideogram.ai/g/6K4uGamzSW2FUk8FyTEyig/2

This one reads "OOLIMA" to me
I can see that :)
Easy to iterate, https://ideogram.ai/g/zoT6zrYYRAqcQEnK0_2PGw/1
Also from Twitter, referring to the Colima in Mexico:

Use the two volcanos from the crest of the existing Colima seal. The blue and orange things at the top.
Hey there!
I noticed the looking for help with the Colima logo.
I really liked the container-style approach by @rfay.
Based on that, I quickly drafted an idea that I hope you might like (or consider something like this):
I like it!
@dhodvogner thanks for that. It looks simple enough.
Considering that a square-sized variation is needed for usages like application icon, I am not sure the proposed icon would be suitable all round.
e.g. the current logo has these two variations.
Sure sure, for readability, it would require an alternative version to use as an app icon.
So, I made a few adjustments:
- Recreated it in vector graphics format.
- Removed some of the fluff (shadows, etc.) because it impacted readability on a smaller scale.
- Incorporated the official Lima logo
- Square-sized version (Notice: On the right side, it's intentionally touching the frame of the image)
- Also, grayscale versions (on black or white background) for print if ever needed.
The only thing I don't like is the letter C
:/ It feels wrapped due to the perspective distortion, primarily on the square versions.
Does anyone have any ideas? Any font recommendations?

I played around with some other ideas when this happened, and I think it's worth sharing!
Background: It's my poor recreation of a Vicuña - which is Peru's national animal - carrying containers on its back 😄

I actually like this one. I suspect the square sized variant will be the icon without the name.
I would propose having the name on the side for the wide variant and the icon without the name for the square variant.
Thanks for your contributions, much appreciated.
@abiosoft,
Yes, that is the idea :)
Let me clean it up a bit, and I will share the SVG version here.
Here you go: colima-logos.zip
Let me know if there is any issue with the SVGs
@dhodvogner I have checked them and they look good. Much appreciated.
One more thing. Can you kindly modify the colima-logo-horizontal.svg
to have the name centered vertically. Similar to how the current logo looks.
Thanks :)
The logo has been adopted #850.
Thanks @dhodvogner.
@andrewtavis haha, that was an oversight.
Fixed now, thanks.

I think it make sense since Lima is Peru's capital.
It's ironic (and a bit confusing, i'd say), because Colima is a city and state in Mexico, while the logo refers to a Peruvian symbol.
@EduardoPazz
Yeah, you make a point!
You need to have the background knowledge that this project is based on lima-wm
And that is the reason for the Peruvian symbol.
