Review axes styles

Some specific issues:
- Where do units go
- How should the x-axis be styled if the y-axis contains negative values
- For time axes, where should tick marks go? Should there be a max number of ticks so the axis doesn't become overcrowded?
- Current thought is that there should be a tick mark for each observation of data. If not every tick can be labeled, the labeled ticks should have longer tick lines
