Companion app - strange look

1wojak opened this issue · comments

I installed Companion app on my spare phone (with Android 5) and it never worked - all I could see were some strange looking horizontal lines and dots (a little bit like blurred photo or strikethrough text (with solid bars over all letters)) - no letters, no menus, nothing - to be honest it lokked as if I just installled some kind of a virus. All I could do was to force-kill the app. Is it because an old Android verison? What is the minimum Android version that should work properly? (By the way - I also tried with Android 4 but it instantly said that the app won't install on that device - but it properly installed on Android 5 device so I thought it should work properly).

Do you have the issue only with the Companion App or also with the main game? Both use the same technology so I expect that either both are running or neither.

Maybe the minimum Android version for UltraStar Play needs to be changed.
So far, it is only known to work on Android 8, which is the oldest Android version I have around.

Anyone here has Android with version 7, 6, 5 to test the Companion App and main game?

I just wanted to try to use my spare phone as a microphone so I downloaded the main program to Windows PC - it seems to work properly. I never tried and don't intend to use tha main app on the phone (can't imagine what would be the purpose and use of it).

In this case, it may help to find the cause of the issue because it may answer the question whether the issue is related to the Companion App (only this app has issues) or its technology (Companion App and main game have issues).

In general, Android is not only an operating system for phones. Instead, it is also used for tablets and smart TVs, which may deliver a better gaming experience.
Furthermore, some Android versions allow to connect with an external monitor, which also can result in a better gaming experience (see proof-of-concept on YouTube).
This is why UltraStar Play is built also for Android and iOS devices.

Hi,
I managed to find another phone, with Android 6 and installed both apps. Both seem to work (I did not have the time to actually use them, just saw that they both started properly and looked "normal").
So - Android 4=no-go; Android 5 - companion app installs but does not work (I did not try the main app); Android 6 - most probably works OK.
Any chances to make it work with Android 5?
Thanks.

From the Unity docs

Unity supports Android 5.1 “Lollipop” (API level 22) and above.

Depending on the issue, I think it should be possible to make it work on Android 5.
Question is, what is the exact issue?

Besides the Android version, it could also be an issue with your specific device.
Which device did you use?
Is there anyone here with another Android 5 device to test the app?
