Required Python version?

Just checking, as I could only run the builder command if I used a python3 interpreter but the README file explicitly mentions Python 2.7.
But then android2po doesn't work on python 3.6 as I could check, and its test suite doesn't run on py3.5 and py3.6.
So what is the required Python interpreter version to run the TM tools?
By checking the travis.yml configuration I'm assuming this is Python 3.4...
