stopwatch goes to 0 when display orientation changes

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. start a countdown
with device in portrait mode 
2. switch device in landscape mode  by rotating it 
3.

What is the expected output? countdown should keep running 
What do you see instead?
countdown is reinitialized to 0


What version of the product are you using? 1.4 
On what operating system?
android cyanogenmod
