Make Plans to Support a Charity

MissMaximas opened this issue · comments

It would be brilliant if we could support a charity within PyCon

With Chloe: Short presentation to get a poll on which charity to support next year
Charities in list for poll so far: BlackGirlsTech, Myton Hospice, Cancer Research

John Pinner Memorial Fund
This year, support Myton Hospice

Possible suggestions:

  • Have a charity booth (Contact charity for this?)
  • Optional donation for tea/coffee (Just buckets left at tables with refreshments)
  • Ability to donate via dinner ticket through Tito (Attendee to specify amount, suggested amount £3)

I think the hospice is the Myton Hospice, Marie Curie nurses are a different charity.

With Chloe: Contact charity to see if they have promotional stuff we can use, and invite them down for a day

I’ve been in contact with Hannah Paulie from Myton Hospice in regards to promotional material, and having a representative at PyConUK this year. We’re going to have a chat in person at some point (we’ve not set a time yet).
I was wondering which day would be best for a representative(s) to come down (and would they have to purchase a ticket)? I was thinking on the Saturday would be best.
In regards to the promotional material, she’s suggested banners and posters and I’ve mentioned the use of buckets. Is there anything else you think we should ask for?

Hi @MissMaximas, thanks for following this up.

The Saturday would be the best day for them to come, since that's when the conference dinner is likely to be.

We could certainly stretch to a ticket for their representative! We could also give them a booth in the Marble Hall along with the sponsors, in which case they'd need banners.

After a discussion, they will not be able to personally attend the event. I'll still look into getting banners from them
