print-color-mode cannot be switched or removed

(If this is not the right place to ask this question, please let me know. Thank you.)

In my printer properties -> Job options I have the filter "print-color-mode" color/monochrome

I have not added this filter "manually/by myself". It was automatically installed.

  1. Question: What/who did install this filter? Was it cups? Was it system-config-printer ?

  2. Question: What is the purpose of this? What does this filter do?

  3. Question: When I try to change this setting from color to monochrom and press "Apply", then it automatically goes back to "Color". Why? Is this normal?

  4. Question: When I press the "-" to delete this filter and after press "Apply", then it automatically brings this filter back. Why? Is this as it should be?

color monochrom

  1. I can print s/w with my printer, although the setting "print-color-mode" is set to "color". Would I become a better s/w print quality, when I would be able to change this filter to "monochrome"?

Thank you.

It is not a filter, it is a job option defined by your driver.

The option is installed based on your driver by CUPS.

Switches the colors which are used in printouts - color/gray.

Those two points look like bugs, thanks for letting me know - the print-color-mode being defined there looks as a duplicate, since you can set this up in 'Printer options', which works, so I'll remove the printer-color-mode from job options.

I'm not sure what you mean by s/w, but let's guess it is a 'black & white'/'grayscale'/'monochrome'.
The answer to the question - no, it just influences colors. You have printer-resolution and print-quality options for managing quality.

Thank you.

Yes, I mean "Black Only Grayscale".

But when "print-color-mode" shows "color" shouldn't then the value in 'Printer options' also be color? But it is not.
It is "Black Only Grayscale" in 'Printer options' and "print-color-mode" shows "color". Isn't this a contradiction? Shouldn't both values be the same?
Colour, black-colour

Thank you.

That's another reason why I marked this as a bug :) . The print-color-mode option will be removed from 'Job options' to prevent this.
